"Party Like A Rock Star"

Lauren's 7th birthday was a blast. I saw the Rock Star party ideas in a magazine and ran with it. I presented the idea to Lauren and she was way excited.
I recieved a lot of compliments on the party and people wanting to know the details so I am going to blog about them for everyone who wanted them.

First I created invitation on my cumputer with some clip art. I wanted them to look like a ticket.

I wanted the kids to walk in on a red carpet so I lined the entry of our house with black table cloths and taped shimmery stars on them. I then put down some red carpet for the rock star guests to walk in on.

Next I created a stage area for the guests to perform.

We borrowed some DJ equipment from a friend. The kids loved all of the music and fun dances. They especially loved the Chicken Dance, Hoky Poky, and all of the Disney music. Mikayla and her friend Tess kept the girls dancing. They were a little shy at first.

I found a guitar shaped pinata at a local part store for one of the activities.

Derk got some corrugate and free handed some guitar designs and then cut them out with his band saw. He then painted them. Half of them were pink and black, the other half of them were gold and black. Then the kids were able to decorate them with stickers, glitter glue, and lettering. They all turned out really cool.

Finally time for the cake. I decided to do a cupcake creation shaped like an electric guitar rather than trying to cut a cake and ice it. I think this turned out very well.

I came to earth as part of a family.

Lauren was asked to give a talk last minute Sunday. She was really excited. I told her the topic and asked her to think about it. I began preparing the talk for her and read it to her. I then asked her that she needed to bear her testimony at the end. This is what she came up with.

"Heavenly Father loves me and He gave me a family that loves me and helps me. I love my daddy, my mommy, and my big sister. I know they love me too. I know they will help me so I can live with Heavenly Father again one day."

There is just something so special about the sweet testimony of a child!

Valentine's Day

We were so lucky this year to spend most of our Valentine's Day in Pocatello, ID at Mikayla's Cheer Competition. The day started early. We woke early to get an early to start because of snowy roads. We spent several hours in ID. Mikayla's team took First place again. Grandma Kapp and Uncle Brent came to watch her compete which was very nice.

Derk and I were able to go out to a movie later that night. We saw "Taken", very intense. Then we picked up some Chinese take out and took it home. Not exactly how I would have like to spend Valentine's Day but It all turned out nicely. Also the beautiful roses, candy, and gifts were a bonus. I love you Derk!

Story time after she had eaten a fruit pizza. Notice the icing on her cheek. :)
